The ‘Semana Negra’ of Gijón is a literary festival born in 1988 thanks to the initiative of the writer Paco Ignacio Taibo II and it is celebrated, every July, in Gijón, Principality of Asturias (Spain). It began dedicated exclusively to the black novel, but has been extended to the science fiction, the fantasy and the historical novel. Nowadays, it also includes cultural events and various ludic events such as concerts, bar terraces, markets, attractions, etc.
This historic 7-day book fair and celebration includes a panel discussion among featured authors, book signings, talks by each of the featured writers, cultural & food vendors, book discussions with each writers, children’s activities, poetry readings, art displays, and much more. In addition to all these activities, the grounds of the old shipyard of Gijón are full of posts in which to be able to be made with the latest novelties and great classics of this type of literature.
The event not only revolves around literature, but invites reflection, political, historical and philosophical, and presents a strong character of social commitment.
The Semana Negra has become one of the events to remember in the asturian summer. During this week, Semana Negra is the hub of a whole range of family-friendly entertainment.
And if we talk about gastronomy, there is an interesting offer of terraces, tents and restaurants that become a second venue, where the authors mingle with readers with a selection of the best Asturian dishes.
Of course, music can not miss an event like this. The Semana Negra offers an extensive music program, with concerts every day, both local and national groups.
